Where Modern Psychology and Spiritual Tradition Meet

Mentoring Sessions
Carl offers safe and effective 90 min. mentoring sessions, both in-person and over Zoom, to motivated students who would like to have personalized attention, teaching, and guidance in order to explore their own Type in greater depth through the lens of the Enneagram. Many students have benefited greatly from this way of learning how to practically apply Enneagram knowledge and wisdom to the joys and challenges of everyday life. As your mentor we will look at your current growth edge. We will discuss how your Type may be unknowingly influencing your choices and behaviors and, in the process, both creating unnecessary suffering yet also providing you with important psychological capacities and spiritual gifts. In these sessions the client always gains new perspectives on life, relationships and work. During this time we can also look at other aspects of the symbol and system, including: the 3 Instincts and 27 Subtypes, Wings, Stress and Security Points, Centers of Intelligence, Triads, creative applications, integration with one’s religious tradition or spiritual path, and much more.
What is a “mentor?”

A simple definition is someone who is “an experienced and trusted teacher, guide and advisor.” When you are young, it’s incredibly important to have someone in your life that you look up to and respect. This person can become a positive role model that you emulate, feel supported by, and learn things from. Adult mentors come in many different forms, for instance teachers, business associates, friends and family members. They take you under their wing to help you grow and develop. According to the IEA, some of the Enneagram mentor’s roles and responsibilities include:

-
Supporting the mentee’s development of personal, interpersonal and professional competencies.
-
Creating a safe, supportive and trusting environment.
-
Agreeing to and scheduling uninterrupted time with your mentee.
-
Staying accessible, committed and engaged.
-
Actively listening, gently questioning, and giving appropriate feedback to the mentee.
-
Encouraging by giving genuine, positive reinforcement.
-
Serving as a positive role model for further Enneagram study and practice.
-
Openly and honestly sharing “lessons learned” from my own inner and outer experiences with the Enneagram.
-
Keeping our discussions on track and moving in useful directions.

Mentoring, Coaching and Therapy

It is important to note that a mentoring experience is neither coaching nor psychotherapy. There are very important differences between these three orientations and practices and, if you are interested in exploring them further, click here.
